Welcome to Seven Teas, the home of authentic Chinese Tea and Tea culture in Australia.
The Seventeas journey began when founders飞 (Fei) and Ben, two tea lovers, met in 2016 while they were both living in China. Having relocated to Australia in 2019, they embarked on a mission to bring authentic tea culture to the land down under, and to deliver the finest and most exquisite Chinese teas at your doorstep.
How tea changed our lives:
飞 (Fei) grew up in the Chinese countryside in Hunan province, a region renowned for its very rich soil and long tea making history. Tea has been a part of her life from a young age, and every members of her family, from her siblings to her parents and aunts are avid and knowledgeable tea drinkers. If you come to visit the family’s house, you won’t be able to leave without first enjoying a few cups during a Gongfu tea ceremony! Fei is both passionate and knowledgeable about tea, and it is her dream to plant the seeds of tea appreciation in Australia.
Ben was brought up in the Mediterranean coast in the Southern part of Europe, surrounded by vineyards rather than by tea fields. He came in contact with Chinese tea for the first time when he moved to China for work in 2013. Upon meeting Fei, she introduced him to the world of Tea: its culture, history, rituals and its many health benefits. In Tea, he found a way to relax, find moments of mindfulness, and energise his mind during long and demanding work days. His motivation is to share the well being he found through this ancient culture, and to bring moments of peace and balance to the lives of more people through the art of tea drinking.
Our name:
There are seven types of traditional Chinese teas, and as tea specialists, we offer all of them, hence our name ‘Seven Teas’. Those teas are White, Green, Yellow, Oolong, Black (called red in Chinese), Pu’er and blossoming teas. Apart from blossoming tea, those teas all come from the same plant, ‘camelia sinensis’. What distinguish them is the process they go through once the leaves have been plucked. Each of those teas have their unique flavour profiles, history, and health benefits. In addition, we love play words.. and who does not love the seventies?
Our Chinese name is ‘Qi Cha’ (pronounced Tchi Tcha), which are the characters you can see in the red seal in our logo. ‘Qi Cha’ is also a play word in Chinese. Phonetically, it has two meanings: It can mean ‘Seven Teas’, but the second meaning of Qi Cha is ‘the art of pouring tea’. We decided to use the characters of the second meaning for our seal, as brewing tea is indeed an art.
